Okay, so not at all car related. BUT! I used to work for the Stranahan’s disterillary, back when they were privately owned and only sold in Colorado. Then they were sold to the Jim Beam companies, and are not found as “speciality” whiskies around the country.
Selling out is sad, y’all.

We did trivia at Rackhouse for a bit. I think I tried Stranahan’s once...I can't do liquor.

Totally and completely - I cannot ever drink another Elysian product in good faith after InBev ran those nasty ads the same week they purchased Elysian. My wife thinks I’m crazy but I am still mad. F’em.

We just did a tour for my birthday. A bottle of Stranahan’s doesn’t survive too long in my house :)

Have you tried Law's? IIRC a couple of Stranahan expats started it up. We did a tour of their facilities last summer, pretty good stuff.

I toured stranahans. I liked the Whiskey, too expensive for me to have regularly though. I didn’t like the people, they thought Colorado is some kind of sacred place and better than all others. Similar for Breckenridge. I much prefer Black Canyon up north on I25.
No local spirits for other places I have lived.

Even if I wanted one, they’re no longer sold here. Wiped off the menu, totally gone. Government’s story is distribution, and private sales band together and boycotted.
Pretty big market. Take some solace. :-)x

“Then they were sold to the Jim Beam companies,”
Oh dear. Yeah, Jim Beam is crap. Even Screech is way better than Jim Beam.
Sidenote: The Jim Beam company also makes the crap called Canadian Club that should also be avoided. If you ever see a Whiskey called “Canadian Mist”, in spite of also having “Canadian” in the name, Canadian Mist is the one you want.

We had a local vodka in Tampa in 2008 or so called Touch. It was fucking fantastic. They never really went retail, just sold to local high end restaurants and bars. I was working at our local alt-weekly paper at the time and we had a good relationship with them, so the office was always stocked with several bottles. Good, delicious times. Whenever we would have an event, I would always stash a bottle off to the side for myself. I probably drank more of their product than anyone else but never paid for a drop.

Regarding beer, sure. Regarding liquor though, I’ve only tried once. That was Buckeye vodka, which sold for $20/750mL. It’s made from grains grown in and spring water from Ohio. It was fine, but I couldn’t tell the difference between that, Grey Goose, New Amsterdam, Smirnoff, or Svedka. Svedka is now the goto, at $21/1.5L.

Whether beer or booze I always seek to try local stuff wherever I am at the moment. Sometimes it’s worth it. Sometimes I wake up missing a kidney.
There’s a Gin from North Carolina called “Cardinal”. Very floral. Nearly impossible to get up here. However, the area is full of bourbon distilleries. Some are pretentious and horrible. Some are amazing.
My Current fave is the Widow Jane bourbon. It’s distilled in Brooklyn using high-grade non-gmo corn and cut with limestone water from the Widow Jane mine in Rosendale, NY. If this sounds pretentiously artisan, then you can’t have any. I love it.
